Wet and windy morning gives way to a calmer, drier evening
Heavy rain and strong blustery winds affect North West England through this morning, with the wettest conditions across Cumbria and Lancashire. Gusts of 30 to 40 mph will be widespread, reaching 40 to 45 mph on exposed coasts around Blackpool and Morecambe Bay and over the hills.
The rain gradually clears eastwards this afternoon, though a few heavy showers remain possible, mainly over Cumbria and higher ground. Cloud breaks increasingly through the afternoon and winds slowly ease, with most places dry by evening.
Despite the rain it stays mild, with highs of 19C to 22C inland, a little cooler on coasts and over the fells. Tonight is dry for most with clearing skies, mild and muggy at first but turning chillier in rural Cumbria by dawn, with lows of 10C to 15C and winds falling light.
