A fine and dry Saturday with sunny spells, chilly tonight
High pressure gives a dry and settled Saturday across North West England. A few patches of low cloud over the west Cumbrian coast, around Morecambe Bay and over the Pennine fringe clear quickly this morning, leaving plenty of sunshine for Merseyside, Cheshire and lowland Lancashire. Cloud builds over eastern Cumbria and the northern Pennines later this morning and into the afternoon, where it turns rather grey with some hill fog on the tops, while elsewhere the sunshine becomes hazier at times. It stays dry everywhere.
Temperatures reach 15C to 17C for most, with 18C possible in Cheshire and around Manchester, but only 10C to 13C on the cloudier Cumbrian fells. Winds are lighter than of late, west to south-westerly with gusts of 12 mph to 18 mph in the south, and 18 mph to 24 mph over the Cumbrian fells and Solway coast around midday.
This evening the remaining cloud clears, and tonight is dry with clear skies for most. It turns chilly, down to 4C to 7C in rural areas, with some mist and fog patches forming around the southern Lake District and Morecambe Bay. Cloud starts to spread into the far north of Cumbria with a freshening breeze towards dawn, ahead of a cloudier and windier Sunday.
